It’s the CliMB!

A little fella’ named Carter Rubin (15) recently won Season 19 of The Voice.

He’s the youngest lad ever to do so.

Before he did that, he used his emotionally expressive vocals to cover a Miley Cyrus hit called, β€œThe Climb.”

I must admit I got a little teary eyed listening to his rendition of this song.

There’s just something about inspirational songs that get me.

Plus, I’m all about β€œthe climb” in this life.

This year especially!

How’s about you???

I can’t even imagine what your journey has been like this year. But if you’re finding yourself nursing worries about keeping a leg up, this song, sung in such a tender, soothing way just might help.

Truth Moment Monday!

Sure. Most all of us seek validation. We want to tell our friends and family about out hopes, and dreams.

We want to share our goals. Some of us even love oversharing online. We’ll post most anything.

But is sharing all there is to know about our past, present, and especially our futures the highest and best idea?

Then it happens. We find that some of those people we entrusted with our hopes and dreams, our goals, our futures, aren’t ready to give us the kind of validation we thought they would. We thought we needed!

They are actually our foes. They don’t want us to realize our highest and our best selves. Instead of lifting us up, they make every effort to keep us down.

We have given them too much information.

I heard something the other day while watching one of my shows that really resonated with me.

Here’s hoping it’ll resonate with you as well.

β€œAlways Keep Your Foes Confused. If They Don’t Know Who You Really Are Or What You Really Want, They Can’t Know What You Plan To Do Next.”

Talk about having an advantage. HELLO!!!

Personally, I’d rather show ’em than tell ’em anyways.

Admittedly, I talk a whole lot. However, I never say more than I need to, and above all, I’m careful who I say it to.

For me, what it boils down to is this…

Oversharing could leave me vulnerable, too transparent, and hardly validated at all.

So nay to doing it!

Truth Moment Monday!

If we could all live our lives with no strings attached, it would be music to our ears.

So this post may sound a little screechy to you because no matter what we do in life, where we go, how we get there, and especially what we go after in life means there is going to be some kind of string (s) attached.

In some cases, lots of them.

Strings we didn’t even think existed, yet there they are.

My advice:

Give ’em a little tug to see how long they are. If at all possible, see if you can make out what’s on the other end of those strings before moving forward.

If there’s something or someone you can ask, do so. Remember, there are billions of people on this planet.

Somebody has been where you’re trying to go.

If all else fails, ask Alexa!

Accept that you are not always going to be down with all the strings you encounter. That really bites doesn’t it?

No running with scissors ok?!

Also accept there is probably going to be a knot or two in the string(s) along the way.

Have a tool, or several tools to loosen the knot. Use your teeth if necessary!

Have a Great Week.

Catalina California is Spooky Beautiful!!!

I recently flew back to California to visit with my oldest friend in the world. Forty-five years we’ve been friends, so it had to be special.

We decided to do it right, and visit several locales on both our bucket lists. When you’ve accomplished most everything else in your life, it’s nice to have a bucket list to tackle next.

It was also my 65th birthday week, so I decided to treat myself to a 10-day excursion strutting around California in style.

Santa Barbara and other coastal destinations were also included.

What? Too braggy?

Catalina Island just happened to be on Nora’s list, so we jetted across from Avalon to Catalina on a ferry boat, and landed in one of the most idyllic spots (outside of the Mediterranean) I’ve ever seen.

Although small cars and trucks are allowed,
golf carts are the most popular mode of travel.
Take about a slanted shot. Ugh!

I won’t pretend to be the most talented photographer that ever photographed parts of Catalina Island, but I will take credit for being one of the most awed.

It’s a super duper hot spot, and I hope you get sense of what Nora and I experienced. We had a dandy time.

It really was, spooky beautiful!!!

Truth Moment Monday!

What would happen if you gave thanks for this week in advance?

That’s right.

You don’t wait until this evening or tomorrow morning.

You give thanks in advance of anything in any particular form or fashion happening.

Give thanks right now.

Right now in advance.

It’s not a demand.

It’s a promise that…

When you do, you’ll be ever so thankful you did.

I call it doing an β€œAs if.” πŸ‚

You’re giving thanks β€œas if β€œ you have everything already to be thankful for.

I promise this works!

In Everything Give Thanks. πŸ‚ And so it is. And so it shall be. πŸ‚

Truth Moment Monday!

If you believe in keeping your life simple, then this post is for you. Just so we’re on the same page, this is what I’m talking about.

I didn’t come up with it. It came to me. Now, I’m passing it on to you.

You heard of it? I hadn’t either, but I’m sure glad I know about this age-old Japanese philosophy now.

Wabi-Sabi encourages us to focus on the blessings hiding in our daily lives, and celebrating the way things are rather than how they should be.

In order for Wabi-Sabi to work in our lives, we have to willingly quiet our minds enough to appreciate muted beauty.

We have to have the courage not to fear bareness, willingness to accept things the way they are, and not go blazing around our lives seeking perfection.

Richard Powell in his book, Wabi Sabi Simple writes that Wabi Sabi acknowledges three simple realities:

β€œNothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.”

Imperfection is the basic principle of Wabi-Sabi. We train ourselves to accept our imperfections and make the most of life.

Our lives can be as difficult or as simple as we make them. We can build on who we already are and what we already have, or once again go blazing for everything else that we ain’t, or don’t really need.

How much do you value tranquility, harmony, beauty, and the chips and dings in your life, in your home, in your relationships?

Can you slow down, relax, step back from the hectic modern world and find enjoyment and gratitude in everything you do, everything you are, everything you encounter?

Personally, I believe that my chips and dings give me character. I’m a little scratched, a bit aged, and have had to patch myself up over the years.

I’ve got things that I’ve broken due to constant use, or an oops, and had to glue back together. They have character too, maybe even more than they did in the first place.

β€˜Cause I’m still happy to have them. I’m still happy to have me. I accept what is still beautiful.

It’s all about mindset. It’s a different way of looking. It’s about building on what we already have.

It’s about making a conscious choice to live it up from where we are right now.

Life is unpredictable. It’s only not ok if we refuse to embrace it. When nothing is certain, everything is possible!

Wabi-Sabi folks. Wabi-Sabi!!!

Post 911 Memorial Art!

β€œA memorialΒ is one of the most challenging and meaningful projects an architect or designer can take on. It must be solemn but hopeful, visually impactful but respectful.”

Elizabeth Stamp – 2016

Every year since, though it’s been many years whence, I’ve felt the need to commemorate an event few of us will ever forget.

Nay, shouldn’t forget!

This year, I’ve decided to share some of the most beautifully constructed memorials commemorating the lives of those lost on September 11th, 2001 I could find.

I’ve also added a poignant YouTube video at the end. It’s short, and I promise worth the watch.

So…go forth, take a moment, to be in the moment.

Truth Moment Monday!

Today is Monday.

You may not be reading this post until tomorrow, or the next day, or next month.

Promise yourself, whatever day you’re reading this post, what ever is no longer serving you, what ever is keeping you stuck in the same formula that is no longer working, you’ll give it up, change something, anything.

Promise yourself!

That way you won’t have to keep squeezing yourself through life. Instead, you’ll ease through.

Why keep grating your nervous system like that?

Surely you see that…

There’s nothing wrong with having a formula for living your life, as long as it’s your highest and best life.

It couldn’t possibly feel good being β€œstuck in the formula” though…

Could it?

Chadwick Boseman 1977-2020.

β€œPurpose is an essential element of you.

It is the reason you are on the planet this particular moment in history.

Your very existence is wrapped up in the things you are here to fulfill.

The struggles along the way are only meant to shape you for your purpose.”

Truth Moment Monday!

Stay the Course!!!

I have cried my eyes out many times doing this, and you know what, in the end, it was worth every tissue.

Giving up is not an option, although you may think it is right now. It seems easier doesn’t it, but is it really???

Yeah, you’re being tested. But you will NOT be beaten!

If you’re going where you are going because you truly believe it’s for you, and you have faith that you can succeed then….

Stay the Course!!!

There’s only one path. It may be rocky, it may be slippery, it may be downright nauseating.

People may try to dissuade you. You may feel like nobody wants to aid you.

The heck with that. To heck with them.

Stay the Course!!!

Worldwide Beautiful!

What would living in a beautiful world no matter where you lived…

Who lived around you, or who you lived around, mean to you?

What would living anywhere you choose in the whole wide world, where ALL people mattered, mean for you?

How would your world be lifted? How would you be lifted?

Mercy. Would β€˜ya listen with me right here?!

Truth Moment Monday!

Nora – a dear girlfriend of mine and I were talking on the phone the other day about the times we live in.

We talked about how folks seem to be really struggling these days, especially with what’s been going on of late.

This caused Nora to suddenly remember something her husband told her his grandfather – there signing his book with Dr. King – always said to him.

Hilton Hanna (cool name right) was his name. His life and his life’s work are a triumphant story.

After hearing what he’d said, I can understand why.

He said…

β€œTake What You Have

Make What You Want.”

I’m adding…

Have a Great Week!!!
