Day Four Napowrimo: Grandmother

download

This is my take on the day four prompt from http://www.napowrimo.net:

She died at 65 when I was 10

gone too soon, too young to understand

so many questions unanswered, so many milestones missed

would she have been proud? Would she still call me her favorite?

would she still read to me? Would our afternoon snack still be tea and graham crackers?

guesses are as good as fact because

She died at 65 when I was 10.

Under a Sapphire Moon

This poem was co-written by myself, unfoldingfromthefog.wordpress.com, www.chronichumanity.com andΒ  namysaysso.com and was inspired by the poetry class,Β Fun with Words, that we are all taking through YeahWrite (yeahwrite.me/).

I spy through slit eyes a vermillion diamond dance the sky
While glowing fingers of sapphire moon creep nimbly across frozen earth
Crystalline shadows peek out from hiding places amongst the icy trees
As I crunch through the frozen crust, sparrows explode from a nearby pine

Statued, I marvel at the sight before my eyes
My mind wrapped of dewy dreams blurred with tentacles of whispery sleep
Gilded laughter percolates into memories of starshine racing across the midnight sky
While glasses clink, we shout to be heard above moonlit fed chatter

Sync-swaying in our own corner
Infinite possibilities cascading before us
We dance in youthspins, our lungs hiccupping joyful anticipation
Till we drop in happy heaps, sunbeaming smiles up to aqua sky

Smile, Little Dragonfly, Smile

Smile

Lovely dragonfly alights upon a daffodil,

simplicity surrounding its captivating mystique,

boldness framed in grace and beauty,

perseverance is serendipity for this magnificent creature.

Out of This World

My husband and I were lucky enough to visit the Ice Castles in Lincoln, New Hampshire a couple of weekends ago. We definitely felt like we were in another world and by the looks of these photos it appeared like it too.

What Memories Evoke

Evoke_LOGO_04_940_5

Evoke

A sensitive soul steeped in memories, traveling down that familiar road; breathing in the scents of childhood, basking in images songs of days past evoke, haunted by reality; history cannot be undone; choking on guilt while a tear recklessly escapes its prison, awash with regret and fury of what is to never be; time moves on regardless, leaving us all wondering where it went. This is how a star is born.

My Favorite Photo of 2017

2017-09-19 22.24.35

2017 Favorites

This is my favorite photo from 2017 (I liked this photo so much in fact, that it is the one I chose to include on our Christmas cards this year). It was taken at the Jokulsarlon Lagoon in Iceland. My husband and I were lucky enough to take our bucket list trip to this beautiful country in September. It is my favorite photo because it projects the feeling of being transported to another world, a world that doesn’t seem quite real. It’s hard to believe such majestic places like this exist on our planet, but they do, and here is my proof of having visited one of them.

Seeking Serenity

IMG_20171130_103047_244

Serene

This was taken during a family walk the day after Thanksgiving near my in-law’s house in Belfast, Maine. It was a gorgeous, crisp morning with only a light wind and bright sunshine. We couldn’t have asked for better walking weather or more serene surroundings in which to take our walk. I am truly blessed to live in such a beautiful state, enjoying all it has to offer.

Seeking peace and quiet, an exhausting quest for calmness, always wondering if it really exists, searching far for rest and relaxation, discovering only disappointment, as nothing is more serene than what exists in your own backyard.

Temporary Beauty

Temporary

Water colors pour from the sky

mixing sunshine and rain

spilling over nature’s canvas

mountains and clouds disappear

victim of a temporary phenomenon

a photo opportunity not to be lost

Waiting

Waiting

We just returned from an unbelievable trip to Iceland where we were lucky enough to witness this geyser in all of its glory. The anticipation was quite nerve-wracking, but in the end mother nature delivered and we were able to see the geyser, from where all other geysers get their name, explode into the afternoon sky, not just once, but at least six times!
